Wan Chai Fire Station
Zhuhai, Guangdong, China
Year: 2023-2025
BUA: 12,237m²
This emergency response complex in Zhuhai’s Xiangzhou District integrates a Grade 1 Fire Station, Emergency Material Storage, Fire Safety Experience Hall, a 10-storey Training Tower, and a single-level basement. The 6,094m² parallelogram-shaped site, flat and bordered by roads on three sides (east, north, west) with a planned urban park to the south, informed a strategic L-shaped architectural layout. This design preserves open space for training and logistics while addressing multi-functional needs.
The design avoids monolithic massing through modular interlocking volumes and rhythmic fenestration, creating visual order. A restrained material palette—real stone paint (red/white/blue/gray), dark gray aluminum frames, and blue-tinted glass—balances durability and cost efficiency. Color coding reinforces the building’s emergency response identity, while minimal ornamentation emphasizes functional clarity.
